Erin, Olivia, and Sachin: The Inspiring Recipients of the 2023 Stop Hunger Gina Gentleman Scholarship

  • News category

Once again, this year, three recipients have been selected to receive a $2,500 scholarship to pursue their studies, in recognition of their volunteer involvement, as well as $1,000 donation to a food security NGO of their choice.

Erin McReynolds

Erin is the daughter of Dave McReynolds, Sodexo Canada Vice President and HR Senior Director, and she has always looked up to her dad, especially when it comes to giving back to the community. Erin volunteers for causes like empowering children with disabilities and supporting homeless and at-risk youth with organizations such as FOXG1, Easter Seals Ontario, and Our Place Peel.

She is continuing her studies with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Queens University. Erin donated to Homes First, a Toronto based non-profit organisation that develops and provides affordable, stable housing and support services to break the cycle of homelessness for people with the fewest housing options.

Olivia Lauzon

Olivia is the daughter of France Brunelle, Sodexo Canada District Manager, Energy and Resources. Olivia has volunteered throughout her high school years and she enjoys putting her skills and talents at the service of others. Olivia was very inspired by Gina Gentleman’s volunteering actions, and Gina’s story motivated her to apply for the scholarship. She will continue her education in the natural sciences program at Collège Lionel-Groulx.

She donated to "Le Relais", in Boisbriand, Quebec, a non-profit organization whose mission is to fight poverty, hunger, and the social exclusion of vulnerable people through the "Les Fripes du Relais" boutique, where Olivia volunteers.

Sachin Matadeen

Sachin is the nephew of Mohini Devi Matadeen, Sodexo Canada Director of Finance, Corporate Services. When he is not volunteering or studying, he likes to play several musical instruments, and practice Taekwondo, since he is recognized as a second-degree black belt around the world. He has been accepted into the Master of Health Science in Medical Physiology program, University of Toronto. He wants to continue helping others and complete his master’s degree to be able to give back to his parents.

Sachin donated to North York Harvest Food Bank, one of the primary food banks for northern Toronto serving over 20000 people each month, where he volunteers every week.
